Raising alarms for amplified caution and preventive measures, the first case of the Delta Plus variant was recorded in Rajasthan. After focused examination, the sample of a doubly vaccinated 65-year-old woman from the desert state, who successfully won against the Covid-19 infection in May has tested positive for the Delta Plus strain. With this detection, Rajasthan has entered the group of 9 states where patients of Delta Plus mutant have been recorded.
Report received from NIV after 25 days
As per the government authorities, the woman has maintained a healthy condition, as of now. The Superintendent of Bikaner’s PBM Hospital, Parmendra Sirohi said, “The patient’s sample was sent to NIV on May 31 and after 25 days, the state government received the reports which were then sent to Bikaner district collector for further action.”
Chief Medical Health Officer of Bikaner district, O.P. Chahar affirmed that special directives have been given for tracing and testing citizens residing around the woman’s home. He has asked the officials to make sure that all the individuals in the neighbourhood, who were tested over the past month will be assessed again. He further informed that the woman has already recovered from the disease and is stable now.
Maharashtra most-hit by the new strain with 21 cases
Taking cognisance of the situation and the possibility of impending fears, Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot has asked officials to ensure that all lags are checked and mended in time. Thereby, it has to be ensured that mutant is curtailed before it leads to an accentuated spread of the new Delta Plus variant.
As of now, Maharashtra, Madhya Pradesh, Punjab, Jammu and Kashmir, Karnataka, Tamil Nadu and Kerala have logged cases of this strain. Amongst them, Maharashtra has the highest number of patients, standing at 21.
