Gujarat continues to face intense heatwave conditions, with the India Meteorological Department (IMD) issuing an Orange Alert for Surendranagar and Kutch till May 14. Several other districts, including Ahmedabad, Gandhinagar, Surat and Vadodara, remain under a Yellow Alert till May 15 as temperatures stay significantly above normal levels. IMD has warned that maximum temperatures across parts of Gujarat are likely to remain between 41°C and 45°C over the next four days.
Orange and Yellow Alerts issued across state
IMD has issued a Yellow Alert for Ahmedabad, Banaskantha, Patan, Gandhinagar, Anand, Surat, Vadodara, Rajkot, Amreli, Devbhoomi Dwarka and Botad till May 15. Meanwhile, Orange Alert for Surendranagar and Kutch due to severe heatwave conditions.
Residents are also getting little relief at night as minimum temperatures remain unusually high across several cities. Ahmedabad recorded a minimum temperature of 30°C, around 3°C above normal levels.
Surendranagar hottest in Gujarat
Surendranagar recorded the highest temperature in the state on Monday at 45.5°C, followed closely by Kandla Airport in Kutch at 45.4°C. Ahmedabad and Amreli recorded 44.3°C, while Gandhinagar touched 44°C. Vadodara registered 43.6°C, Deesa recorded 43.5°C, Rajkot saw 43.3°C, and Surat touched 42.2°C. Surat also recorded the highest deviation from normal temperatures at 6.8°C above average levels.
According to the IMD, Ahmedabad’s temperature remained 2.7°C above normal, while Amreli and Vadodara were 3.5°C hotter than usual.
