Towering since 1974 in Madhya Pradesh, the Narsignhgarh Sanctuary in Rajgarh, is the natural habitat for a whole range of rare animals and exclusive species. The most popular animals found here include Chital, Sambhar, Blue Bull, Leopard, Wild Boar, Bhedki, Crocodile among others. A haven for bird watchers, this sanctuary is home to about 164 species of birds, including both locals and migratory species, attracting the likes of all environment and adventure enthusiasts.

Besides, the forest cover includes Teak, Saja, Dhawda, Khair, Bhaeda, Kronda, Lendia, Arjun, Chandan and many more such plants, that create a thick maze-like cover, heightening the forest’s charm.

Besides the bounties of nature, the sanctuary premises also feature rock shelters, that document several paintings in red and white. The premises are also home to the architectural marvel of the Narsinghgarh Fort and centres of faith such as Bada Mahadev, Chhota Mahadev temples, Haji Wali Dargah, Soulah Khamb. The locals’ faith especially brightens up the Bada Mahadev and Chota Mahadev temples in the colours of the festive fairs conducted here, during Shivratri.

While a winter trip is most suitable, with a balmy sun accompanying your trek, one may even opt for a visit anytime during March to June, if the rationale is to catch the maximum number of birds. Several birds usually migrate to warmer places during the colder months, leaving the forest barren. Visitors can also rent a rest house in the sanctuary itself and witness a starry night, away from the dust and pollution of the city.
People are allowed to take in their personal 4-wheeler vehicles on the forest grounds, provided the car is no older than 5 years. This norm has been established to keep a check on the level of gas emission within the sanctuary limits.
