The touristy city of Jaipur may seem very cheerful and chirpy. Upon closer inspection however, one will notice that it is riddled with the same women-related issues (eve-teasing, rape, molestation and harassment) that are prevalent all over India. In order to do away with these regressive practices, Jaipur Police’s new Nirbhaya squad is at your service.
What’s the update?
In order to make Jaipur safer for women- tourists and residents alike – the authorities have taken a commendable step. They have recruited a new squad comprising of 20 women constables who will act as watchdogs and will ensure that women are safe, no matter where they are, at what hour.
How will Nirbhaya squad help?
The constables will be riding around the city and keeping an eye on all parts of it. The team themselves are skilled and should bring about a major change in the behaviour of ruffians in the city.
Apart from just being vigilant, it will be their duty to restrain, arrest and do the needful in case a situation crops up out of the blue. The constables have also been equipped with weapons and first aid, should the need for these arise.
Where will they be positioned?
Most of the squad will be positioned at high alert areas, where eve-teasing and molestation cases are rather high. These areas have been identified by the Jaipur police and they will keep a watchful eye on them. Apart from this, other high traffic areas are also under the radar.

What’s neat is that the squad will constantly be in touch with the major control room, which will guide them and tell them of any impending dangers. Similarly, the Nirbhaya squad can also relay information back to them.
Authorities have stated that soon, they plan to induct 30 more bikes, thereby increasing the squad members. This will bring the total number of bikes to 50, which will help send out a strong message.

The issue of eve teasing and related problems is one that is on the rise. It is nice to see that Jaipur Police are taking control of things and striking fear into the hearts of these ruffians. Such major steps will certainly ensure safety of women in our society.
