Due to a delay in the completion of the new terminal building at the Kanpur Chakeri Airport, four new IndiGo flights will take off from the old terminus. As per reports, the deadline for the construction of the new building has been extended to December end, in line with the non-completion of civic work here. According to earlier plans, the new terminal was set to complete by September 30, which fit IndiGo’s plans to introduce the 4 services from September 15.

The Chakeri Airport authorities have been instructed to reschedule IndiGo flights due to the delayed operations of the new terminus. Earlier, IndiGo was planning to launch 4 services from September 15, from the new terminus. The plan was then postponed to begin from October 15, in line with the extended project timeline.
However, with the entire project being pushed to the year-end deadline, the DGCA has granted permission to flag these off from the old terminal only. As such, domestic operations from Kanpur to Delhi, Mumbai, Hyderabad and Bangalore have been slated, accordingly.
Additionally, SpiceJet has also scheduled three aircraft from the Chakeri Airport to Delhi, Mumbai and Kolkata. It had initially planned an aircraft service to Amritsar as well but the flight was cancelled before take-off. Although, airline officials have confirmed the start of the Kanpur-Amritsar route soon.

The new terminus at Kanpur Airport has been sanctioned a budget of about ₹160 crores and its depot is scheduled at Mawaiya. The proposed airdrome has the capacity to house over 300 passengers and park 150 vehicles. It will further have 8 check-in counters and will be equipped with 3 aircraft tarmacs or parking lots, read reports. This number can be increased if need be.
Lately, the Special Secretary of Civil Aviation had also surveyed and directed the workers to conclude the work as early as possible. The information about the delay has further been relayed to the state administration and government as well.
