With the vision of arresting unprecedented surge in the number of coronavirus cases in the city during Christmas celebrations, the Kanpur administration has guarded the entry of people within the Church premises by masks and sanitisers. These items have been made mandatory to enter the parish and attend the midnight mass.
COVID-19 protocols to be followed at churches during Christmas
The merry-makings of Christmas this year will be mellowed given the rampant spread of coronavirus infection. Though the festival will be celebrated by observing all traditions, the pandemic has surely scarred the joys of Christmas festivities, eclipsing the glitter and pomp of the city’s celebrations.
In a bid to prevent overcrowding at the city churches and maintain the norms of social distancing, several churches have taken a decision to allow only parish members to physically attend the Christmas mass at the chapel, which will soon be locked after the service is concluded.
These preventive measures are being implemented to eliminate the possibility of any laxity which may rekindle the spread of coronavirus in the city. Though the daily fresh caseload has been caged at the sub-75 range in Kapur for the last 10 days, its total tally of confirmed cases has clocked over 31,826, cases. Out of this, around 638 continue to receive active treatment in various health facilities in the city, while 30,379 have recovered and 809 have fallen prey to the fatality of the coronavirus.
