The eighteenth edition of the QS World University Rankings has been released on Wednesday and 35 Indian institutes have made the list. This list includes the Indian Institute of Technology, Bombay, at 177th position and the Indian Institute of Technology, Kanpur, at 277, among other universities. A global higher education analyst group, Quacquarelli Symonds, ranks universities of the world based on several factors, including academic reputation, citations per faculty and other factors.
IIT Bombay leads the rankings among Indian universities

With an overall score of 46.4, IIT Bombay is leading the Indian universities in QS World University Rankings and the 5 old IITs have reserved their places among the top 300 universities in the world. These rankings mark a huge leap in the education and research sector of India, which has received praise from apex authorities.
Union Education Minister stated in a tweet, “Today, I’m extremely proud to share that India is taking a leap in the field of Education & Research and is emerging as a VISHVAGURU.” Further, the Prime Minister of India also appreciated the performance of these universities on the international level and said that- “Efforts are underway to ensure more universities and institutions of India scale global excellence and support intellectual prowess among the youth.”

Entering the top-200 are IIT Delhi, IIT Bombay and IISc Bangalore, however, these institutes still aim at improving their rankings. IISc Bangalore has been ranked first in the world for research as it received a perfect score of 100/100. Further, entering the rankings among prestigious humanities and social science institutes is the Jawaharlal Nehru University, ranked between 561-570.
On the global level, the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) has once again retained its top spot with an overall score of 100.
