In a digital upgrade under the Lucknow Smart City Project, it has been decided to implement an Integrated Traffic Management System, with effect from July 1. Reportedly, the new arrangement will employ a network of state-of-the-art CCTV cameras, internet connection and NIC data, across 132 intersections in the city, to give momentum to this initiative. Thus, from now on, drivers and riders will be charged with an e-challan or e-traffic ticket in case of any traffic violation here.
Smart City Project to promote road safety
The Smart City traffic management system with its CCTV circuit, will assist in the rapid issuance of immediate e-challans in Lucknow. The camera will click a photograph of the vehicles breaking any traffic rule. A traffic control room has been set up to establish a system of monitoring the traffic movement and issuing warnings to those who break the rules.
In case of a violation, the integrated server will use the NIC data to find the phone number attached to the vehicle and generate an e-challan directly to it. This invoice will include the photo of the offence along with the time and place of the violation.
The system will ease the procedure of paying fines for the commuters as well. On being challaned under the new system, the concerned driver does not have to go anywhere. The e-challan message will consist of a link option to deposit the mitigation fee. It may be noted that there is also an option of submitting the penalty amount at the office of DCP Traffic.
As of July 1, the system will be activated across 132 intersections in Lucknow. An e-challan may be issued in the case of crossing the red signal at intersections, driving without a helmet or seat belt, overspeeding, driving in the wrong or opposite lane and even if the vehicle number is disturbed. The system aims to ensure complete compliance with traffic rules, promoting road safety.
Traffic control room to be set up at Lalbagh
The agenda to set up an Integrated Traffic Management System had long been on the cards of the Smart City Project. The arrangement could not be materialised until now due to the non-receipt of data of the vehicles across the country, from NIC.
Recently, the Smart City Project was granted permission to use this nationwide data and connect it to the control room of the management system. Reportedly, the control room of the Integrated Traffic Management System has been set up at the headquarters of the Smart City Project, located at Lalbagh.
