In a move that focuses on preserving the environment, the Uttar Pradesh government has decided that it shall translocate trees instead of cutting them down. However, this rule shall be applicable only on trees that are more than 20 years old. In compliance with this decision, the State Forest Department successfully translocated a peepal tree, which was on the Mohanlalganj-Gosaiganj route in Lucknow, to another location, on Tuesday.
Tree relocated 2 km away using specialised machinery
This tree which was translocated from Lucknow, was uprooted with the help of machinery, as it was a hurdle in the process of widening the road that passes the Mohanlalganji-Gosaiganj area. The specialised machine used not only digs out the tree with its roots and mother soil but also replants it at the new site.
The new location of the tree is 2 kilometres away from its original spot as it had to be relocated quickly, else the tree might have not survived the process. The tree was translocated in the presence of authorities and higher officials, including Uttar Pradesh’s Forest Minister, read reports.
With this policy in effect, hundreds of trees that are felled every year because of developmental projects will now be saved, thereby making all such endeavours eco-friendly. The Forest Minister of Uttar Pradesh was quoted saying- “We are planting crores of trees every year and if we can save the existing trees, it would go a long way in forest conservation.”
