As part of Indian Railways’ plans of introducing restaurants on wheels, Lucknow’s Charbagh Railway Station has stepped aboard. A unique dining experience will soon await passengers and visitors as the age-old station will see all new food joints in rail coaches.
This is part of a non-fare revenue opportunity, where the IRs will be putting discarded train coaches on lease for a period of 3-5 years. The same would then be utilised by restaurant owners, who would, in turn, convert the coaches into antique/exotic food joints.
The atmosphere of ‘Restaurant on Wheels’ at Charbagh Railway Station
While construction work on a bogie outside the station is nearing completion, numerous cuisines are in talks of being served at this restaurant. This will include Mughlai, Rajasthani, Gujarati, Punjabi, South Indian and Chinese cuisines, besides fast food. Additionally, some 50 dishes will be available and the place could accommodate nearly 50 people.
Another outside seating arrangement will be made for some 30 people. Wiring work is also being carried out to ensure proper supply of power at the air-conditioned restaurant.
Moreover, classical music and Awadhi folk songs, defining the rich culture of Lucknow, will be played here, thus, enhancing the fine-dine experience. In order to glorify the the cultural delicacies of the city, foodies could gorge on khasta, kebabs, Awadhi biryani and more at the ‘Restaurant on Wheels’ of Charbagh Railway Station.
More such restaurants on wheels are expected to sprout in railway stations of Sidhauli (Sitapur), Gorakhpur, Varanasi junction, Varanasi city, Agra Cantt and Jhansi.
