BMC shares master plan layout to  refurbish South Mumbai's Jawaharlal Nehru Garden

Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation recently proposed its master plan to refurbish the Jawaharlal Nehru Garden in South Mumbai. According to the blueprints, the civic body has decided to retain the existing garden, trees and shrubs of the open space, in line with the local sentiment and feedback.

As such, the new development plan includes the installation of only accessory infrastructure around. This includes pathways, lawn mounts, ornate lighting, a pergola with seating, along with a portable security cabin among other amenities.

In a first, Mumbai's civic body uses fumigating drone to fight vector-borne diseases!

In a bid to prevent the rise of vector-borne diseases in Mumbai, the BMC has employed the use of a fumigating drone. A maiden move, this initiative has helped the civic body to clock in a 54% drop in the number of dengue and malaria cases in Mumbai's G-South West Ward, this year. The effective arrest can be attributed to the usage of the drone, which eased the penetration of the anti-larval spray even in the inaccessible spots across the cramped Prabhadevi, Lower Parel & Mahalaxmi.

Mithi River's pollution level to now be in check with the construction of two tunnels!

As per a proposal passed by the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC), two tunnels will be set up soon to help prevent pollution in the Mithi River, at an estimated cost of ₹500 crores. This river has been swallowing waste and sewer water for years now and this project will help to mitigate its contamination levels. Alongside, another proposal has been cleared, wherein oxygen plants will be installed at 10 locations across the city, at a budget of ₹204 crores.

The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation has decided to induct technology and innovation to tackle a whole host of civic issues in Mumbai. The mission will progress under the municipality's Business Incubation Centre with the help of city-based startups and their expertise in different subjects.

MPA's new parking management plans to take off by August at 3 wards in Mumbai

The BMC's new agency, Mumbai Parking Authority (MPA), has slated the implementation of a comprehensive, strategic and decentralised ward parking plan, most likely by August. As per officials, the new parking management strategy will be introduced as a pilot strategy at three administrative wards here, namely the Grant Road (D), Andheri west (K-West) and Bhandup (S). Provision for pre, online bookings will be enabled at these new spaces. While officials are still working on the parking fees for the new holdings, it is pegged to significantly slash the current rates.
