Municipal measures to tackle traffic and implement Street Vendor Policy
In an effort to alleviate traffic congestion and adhere to the Central Government’s Street Vendor Policy 2016, the Municipal Corporation is taking steps to establish vegetable markets in 13 locations across seven zones, including Chandlodia, Kalupur, and Jodhpur.
A tender will be issued to facilitate the creation and subsequent upkeep of these markets, aimed at curbing traffic issues caused by vegetable sellers operating on public roads. The move also seeks to address illegal vending pressures in local areas, ensuring open public roads and affordable vegetable prices for residents.
CEPT University survey reveals most prosperous wards
In a recent survey conducted by CEPT University, titled “Relative Prosperity of Ahmedabad,” 2,798 households in 51 wards under the AMC were assessed. The survey focused on parameters such as household income per capita, floor index, and ownership of vehicles and air conditioners.
Results indicate that Navrangpura ward, Girdhernagar ward, Gandhigram ward, and Jodhpur ward are the most prosperous wards in the city. Girdhernagar and Navrangpura lead the prosperity index, closely followed by Jodhpur and Gandhigram.
Surge in typhoid and cholera cases raises health concerns
Ahmedabad is witnessing a rise in waterborne diseases such as typhoid and cholera, prompting the Health Department of the Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation (AMC) to issue precautionary recommendations.
While typhoid cases decreased in November, overall waterborne disease cases have increased. The city’s residents are urged to take necessary precautions to prevent the further spread of these illnesses.
Unseasonal rains lead to surge in vegetable prices
Vegetable prices in Gujarat, particularly in Ahmedabad, have experienced a sharp rise due to unseasonal rains causing extensive damage to crops. The Agriculture Produce Market Committee (APMC) in Jamalpur, Ahmedabad, reported a substantial decline of 5000 quintals in vegetable income.
Over the past two days, the prices of vegetables have surged by 25 to 30 percent.
‘Spectacleum’ art show at Gufa Gallery
