Two Paralympics players from Jaipur have been recommended for the Major Dhyan Chand Khel Award, the highest rank for sports in the country. Notably, this is the first in the 30 year-old-history of Khel Ratna that 2 sportsperson from the same city will be conferred with the award. The two nominated players are Avani Lekhara and Krishan Nagar, who bagged gold medals at the Tokyo Paralympics 2020.

Avani Lekhara and Krishan Nagar are back in the headlines after winning gold medals for India at the Tokyo Paralympic 2020, held earlier this year. While Lekhara emerged as the first Indian woman to win a gold medal at the Paralympic Games, Nagar bagged the gold honour in the badminton SH6 category.
Despite being weighed by disabilities, the two players from Jaipur have soared to great heights and become an inspiration for many to not give in. Now, the two players have been nominated for the national sports honour as an acknowledgement of their unhindered spirit and for etching a glorious chapter in India’s sports history.
