Though much of the furniture adorning this palace belongs to an era gone by, the rooms were refurbished and converted into a museum in 1988, as the Nehru Centre for Arts and Sciences was inaugurated. It is a centre that promotes new ideas, has a library and displays exhibits on science, technology and folk art, among other things.

Located near the river Khan, this three-storeyed palace’s existence is a blend of an Italian villa and a French chateau and it is one of the surviving manifestations of the Maratha rulers- the Holkars. It is believed that the gates of this palace were shipped from London and are a replica of those adorning the facade of Buckingham Palace. Further, the rooms of this palace have painted ceilings, grand chandeliers and decor, which is reportedly inspired by that of Versailles Palace.
