Expanding the range of available resources for the treatment of COVID infected individuals, Zydus Cadila’s new drug ‘Virafin’, will be soon provided at medical centres in Lucknow, Kanpur and Prayagraj in Uttar Pradesh. As per the statement of a government official, this medicine with proven efficiency for COVID treatment, will be given to one hospital in each of these three cities within the next two to three days.

Speaking about this latest development, the Chief Minister asserted that the scientists in the country are working devotedly to find viable alternatives for the cure of COVID-affected individuals. While the crunch in medical facilities is hampering the process of treatments in Uttar Pradesh, it would be interesting to note, if the introduction of this new drug can reap significant benefits. After observing the usage of the drug in the three districts, it is anticipated that the medicine will be further provided in all regions.
UP Government issues new guidelines for providing Remdesivir injections
Ushering in a sigh of relief for severe COVID patients at hospitals in Uttar Pradesh, the Chief Minister has announced that they will be given Remdesivir injections free of cost. In this regard, the CM has instructed officials to ensure that all districts have a sufficient amount of Remdesivir available in their inventories, in accordance with the demand. Orders related to this have been given out by the Department of Health and Family Welfare.
It is to be noted that the private hospitals will have to get this drug from the production companies in the general markets. In case, Remdesivir is not available in private hospitals and it is essential for the survival of any patient, then on the basis of the hospital’s prescription, the district magistrate and the Chief Medical Officer (CMO) can provide this life-saving drug for the concerned patient.
It has been mandated that Remdesivir will only be given to the patients receiving treatment at the hospitals after their doctor approves it. Currently, 5,500 individuals are being given this drug on a daily basis in Uttar Pradesh. Remdesivir vials will be provided every day to hospitals having L-2 COVID beds, including government and private centres and medical colleges. Further, each district of Uttar Pradesh will be given 1,800 vials of these injections for an emergency situation.
