Setting a goal to create a new world record under the Guinness book, six master swimmers of India set off from the Gateway of India, Mumbai to cover a distance of 1,100 km between Mumbai to Goa during World’s Longest Open Water Sea Swimming Relay.
The swimmers are Sampanna Shelar (21) from Pune, Kartik Cugle (20) from Vasai, Raj Patil (17) from Uran, Jiya Rai (14) from Colaba, Rakesh Kadam (24) from Vasai, and Durven Naik (17) from Andheri. Among the swimmers, Jiya is the youngest and sole female member of the team.
Event will conclude on December 28 after the completion of return relay course

The continuous relay will go on for a duration of 13 days during which the swimmers will relay swim between the Mumbai-Goa-Mumbai stretch of the Arabian Sea, tackling many challenges over their course.
Reportedly, the unique event which is stated as the world’s longest open water relay is being conducted by the Vasai-Virar Open Water Sea Swimming Foundation, under the observation of the Para Swimming Federation of India and Swimming Association of Goa.
The swimmers will swim solo on a rotational basis all through the entire route during the 13-day span. Furthermore, the relay will only observe a minor halt of 1 hour after the swimmers reach Fort Aguada point in Goa to return. Following this, the swimmers will continue the relay for completing their return course to the Vasai Fort in Palghar, after which the event will be concluded on December 28.
