Kanch Mandir in Indore, which literally translates to Temple of Glass, is one of the few of its kind in the world. In India itself, there are about 7 such temples which were built by Sir Seth Hukumchand Jain in 1903.
The temple, as the name suggests, is entirely built from glass and mirrors on the inside. So much of it, in fact, that even the floors and roofs have over hundreds of thousands of shards of reflective glass plastered all over.

Built in 1903, it has attracted visitors from all over the world who marvel at the architectural genius of the establishment. The variety of glasses used are elaborate, intricate and extravagant. They are coloured, providing a mosaic of sorts all across the walls, the floors and the roofs. All of the glass and mirrors used here were imported from various countries of the world, to emphasize the elaborate nature of the structure.

The reason for building this temple was to provide a place of worship to people who follow Jainism all over the country. People would travel far and wide from across the globe to visit the temple and even today, it stands tall as a great marvel of India’s innovation and forward thinking mindset.
The construction is truly a sight to behold and one of the most beautiful and unique places that you can find in Indore. You may be a passer by, or a native of the place, but the beauty of the Kanch Mandir will not cease to amaze you.
