You never know when the smallest of gestures can become the biggest part of someone’s life and one example of this, is the story of Alice Garg. Decades ago, her father gave her a small seashell as a gift to mark her 5th birthday. Fascinated by it, Alice Garg never stopped collecting seashells, no matter which corner of the world she travelled to. In an effort to introduce children and grown-ups to the fascinating world of seashells, she and her husband have established Jaipur’s first museum dedicated to seashells. Seashells from the farthest shores
The Alice Garg National Museum of Seashells has added a unique dimension to the tourism of the Pink City with its rich collection from different corners of the world. Boasting of a collection from 6 different continents of the world, here visitors can find seashells from seas like Zealandic, Caribbean, Mediterranean, Panamic, Japonic, among others!
Among the collection put on display, there are a large number of rare shells from Gastropoda to Bivalvia and some are so small that they are visible clearly only when placed under a magnifying glass. The list of the prized possessions of this museum includes ‘The Australian Trumpet’, ‘The Glory of India’ and ‘The Great Indian Chank’.

If your beach trips are incomplete without scouting for seashells, then this museum should be on your must-visit list. Even if this isn’t the case, you can bag a few items made of shells from the small shop located adjacent to the museum. So don’t forget to tag along to this place with your shopping buddy, whenever the opportunity presents itself!
