While Uttar Pradesh is gradually speeding up the process of COVID-19 immunisation drives, Kanpur witnessed a significantly low count of the same on Friday. The city lagged behind other districts in the state, recording 25.2% of the estimated vaccinations due to the low turnout of frontline workers. According to reports, only 1,471 individuals got immunised out of the designated number of 5846 frontline workers.
PAC hospital registered the best rate of target achievement
Reportedly, the city has 27 vaccination centres with a total of 50 booths. While PAC hospital welcomed the largest number of beneficiaries standing at 371, other centres witnessed vaccination of a remarkably small number of frontline workers. It is noteworthy though that the rural areas in the city recorded better vaccination rate than the urban regions.
The PAC hospital was supposed to inoculate 289 frontline workers but due to the arrival of a higher number of beneficiaries, it had to get more doses delivered. After the session got concluded, the PAC centre had registered a 128% rate of target achievement.
1.4% of targetted inoculations, just 5 individuals got jabs at Ursala Hospital
Among the centres that lagged behind, Police Line Hospital, Municipal Corporation Headquarters and Ursala Hospital observed the lowest rates of vaccination. Despite four teams being deployed at the Police Line Hospital, only 148 out of the expected 500 police officials and municipal workers got vaccinated, given the lower turnout. At the municipal headquarters, 445 out of the listed 756 individuals got immunised. The biggest dent in Kanpur’s vaccination record was caused by the drive conducted at Ursala Hospital. Recording vaccination rate of 1.4%, the hospital saw just 5 of the 360 estimated beneficiaries in the entire day.
As per reports, the health officials in the district are concerned about the worrying levels of COVID vaccination. The situation would be analysed in a joint meeting of CMO, ACMO, Dept. CMO and representatives of partner agencies. With proper assessment of the current circumstances, Kanpur expects to be soon on the track of the accelerated process of vaccination.

On Saturday, the cumulative count of individuals affected by COVID stood at 32,947 in Kanpur. The city, which had 64 active cases of coronavirus on Saturday, has been a witness to 838 fatalities so far. Kanpur is the most affected city in Uttar Pradesh, only next to the state capital, Lucknow in terms of total cumulative cases.
