IIT Kanpur’s SIIC (Startup Incubation and Innovation Centre) has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Uttar Pradesh’s Department of Training and Employment. As per this MoU, IIT Kanpur shall engage in the task of training principals of Industrial Training Institutes (ITIs) across the state on new-age innovation technologies, through workshops. The main aim of this programme is to foster capacity building and to complement academic knowledge by tapping into the contemporary skillset.
How will this MoU help ITIs?
On Monday, a week-long workshop was launched by SIIC, IIT Kanpur, to address global challenges through modern and technology-led innovations. The launch event was graced by several dignitaries, including the UP Minister of State (Independent Charge), Secretary to the Chief Minister, Director of IIT Kanpur and the CEO of SIIC.
Similar workshops will be conducted by subject experts from IIT Kanpur. A press release by the institute mentioned that these workshops will expose participants to the Volatile, Uncertain, Complex and Ambiguous (VUCA) world which is experiencing amplified dynamism under the current circumstances.
This kind of interdisciplinary programme will enhance the skill set possessed by students, apart from improving the efficiency of our educational system. In a nutshell, this worship will improve the employment opportunities for ITI students in the fast-moving, digital world and the slow job market, which is a consequence of the global pandemic.

This MoU is seen as a welcome move by all stakeholders involved. An institute like IIT Kanpur, which is a pioneer in its field, can aid the growth of other institutes by guiding and training them in educational endeavours, research-related tasks alongside technical and industrial development.
