Today morning, residents of Lucknow and nearby areas woke up to overcast skies and moderate to heavy pre-monsoon rainfall was reported in several areas. As per the latest forecast of the weather department, it is expected that monsoons will hit Kanpur, Lucknow and other UP districts by this weekend, almost a week before the schedule. This situation has risen due to the fast pace of monsoon currents and in light of these circumstances, certain cities have been put on orange alert to caution residents against possible damages.

Weather changes will be observed in all the eastern districts of UP as grey clouds are dispersing across the sky. The weather department expects that in the next 24-48 hours, almost a dozen cities including Lucknow, Baghpat and Bahraich, will either experience or have experienced heavy showers and gusty winds. An orange alert has also been issued in these cities by authorities to mitigate damages to life and property.
Further, Amroha, Bijnor, Muzzaffarnagar, Meerut, Muradabad, Sambhal, Rampur, Gonda, Unnao, Kanpur Nagar, Kanpur Dehat, Kannauj, Mainpuri, Kaansganj, Badaun and Etah are also expected to receive rainfall. However, no alert has been issued in these districts for the speed of rain will be lesser than 40 kmph.
Monsoon across UP in 2020
Last year, monsoon showers hit Uttar Pradesh districts around 20 June- which was also the predicted date for this year. However, owing to fast-paced monsoon currents and other factors, the rainy season is arriving almost a week earlier here. A full-blown monsoon can be expected to take effect by this Friday or Saturday, i.e., 11 or 12 June.
