AMC launches “Green Swachh Society League”
In an effort to make Ahmedabad cleaner, AMC has initiated the “Green Swachh Society League.” This competition aims to raise awareness about cleanliness in societies, flats and high-rise buildings. Participants are encouraged to segregate waste into dry and wet categories at the household level, ensuring proper disposal through door-to-door waste collection vehicles.
The competition will include flats and societies across 48 wards in 7 zones of the city. Certificates and memorabilia will be awarded to all participating societies, with three winners chosen from each ward and an overall best society selected from the seven zones.
Gujarat University introduces 6 new online courses for UG and PG students
Gujarat University has launched six new online courses from the 2024-25 academic year, commencing on June 1. The University Grants Commission (UGC) had granted permission to universities with high national rankings to introduce online courses.
The newly introduced courses include three bachelor’s degree programs (BCom, BA, and BCA) and three master’s degree programs (MCom, MA, and MSc). GU will admit students for the courses twice in a year, offering both undergraduate and postgraduate courses.
Shift in train departures due to Railway Station redevelopment
In the ongoing redevelopment of Ahmedabad railway station, a change in departure points for certain trains has been implemented. The following trains, which previously departed from Ahmedabad Junction, including Swarna Jayanti Rajdhani Express, Ahmedabad-Lucknow Express, Ahmedabad-Varanasi Express, Ahmedabad-Gorakhpur Express, Ahmedabad-Sultanpur Express, and Ahmedabad-Mata Vaishnodevi Katra Express, will now depart from Sabarmati Station.
On the other hand, Ahmedabad-Veraval Superfast Express, Ahmedabad-Jammu Tawi Express, and Ahmedabad-Veraval Express will now depart from Gandhinagar Station.
Ahmedabad-built Synthetic Aperture Radar (SAR) Model set for space journey
Ahmedabad’s PierSight company is a key player in ISRO’s upcoming mission. In June, ISRO’s PSLV Orbital Experiment Module (POEM) will be in space for at least seven days, carrying 8-10 payloads, including prototypes from the Indian National Space Promotion and Authorization Centre (IN-SPACe).
One of these crucial prototypes in consideration is developed by PierSight, featuring a durable carbon composite material crafted at Ahmedabad Textile Industry’s Research Association (Atira).
