With an extensive implementation of its projects, UPMRC has set a target of November 2021 for initiating the trial run of Kanpur Metro. As per the latest developments, the Managing Director of Uttar Pradesh Metro Rail Corporation Limited, Keshav Kumar informed on Saturday that the metro project will get the first coaches in September this year. Reportedly, he also informed that seven advanced machines of ‘Depot machinery and plant system’ will be deployed assuring a faster execution of the operational launch.
Construction for the underground section to begin this month
The seven machines in the proposals include a fully mechanised CNC under floor pit wheel lathe machine (for rotating the rail wheel), a fully automated synchronized pit jack machine (for raising and lowering coaches for upkeeping), a fully automatic synchronized mobile jack (for transferring coaches from one place to another), bogie turntable (for shifting bogies from one track to other track) automatic train washing plant (for automatic washing of Metro coaches). In addition to this, other equipment will also be installed.
It is expected that construction for the underground section of the metro shall start this month. For this, specialised tunnel digging machines are being brought from Lucknow, Gujarat and Mumbai. Reportedly, the underground section is being established with the help of a Turkish company, Sam Gulermak.
One of the fastest metro projects in the country
As per the statements given by officials, Kanpur Metro is one of the fastest metro projects in the country. Given the recent progress, the project is gradually shifting from the ‘civil’ to ‘system’ phase. UPMRC eyes ambitiously to execute the trials of Kanpur Metro by November 30 after all the required machines for the operation are installed.
