With a continuous rise of COVID-19 cases in the past week, Indore’s infection graph is shaping towards another peak this month. As per reports, the daily count of new cases has surged by over 50% in the first two weeks of March, in comparison to the last two weeks of the previous month. Besides this, the case positivity ratio in this period has jumped by over 4% to stand at about 11.3%. These progressive tallies have shot up the city’s current active caseload to 1,752 cases, the highest across all districts in Madhya Pradesh.
COVID-19 resurgence in Indore after a month of a lull
The recent coronavirus case spike in Indore has raised concerns among health officials, who have stated that the pandemic is not adhering to the forecasted cycles. According to experts, every known pandemic has had a cycle, that is, it peaks and plateaus before or nearing its end. Consequently, the fear of another peak in March threatens the overall health index of the city.
Indore is recounting a high number of infections each day, since February 13, after a brief period of a lull in January. The district reported about 264 cases on Tuesday, with zero morbidity. The Nodal officer has also hinted at the possibility of a resurgence due as 6 new UK-variant infections have been identified here. However, any concrete statement about actual new-strain infection can only be confirmed after the National Centre for Disease Control yields final reports. Parallelly, the death toll is increasing with the number of new cases.
Area-based vaccination centres in Indore
In response to the heightened rate of COVID transmission, the Indore Health Department has ramped up the inoculation drive here. It is now establishing area-based vaccine centres at medical and health facilities in localities reporting a high rate of infection. New booths have been launched in both private and government hospital here.
On Monday, new vaccination centres kickstarted at Urban Primary Health Center in Sudama Nagar, Sanjivani Center at Gandhinagar, Juna Risala in the Western Region and Urban Primary Health Center in the Babu Murai area. With these backing the immunity drive, Indore now has the potential to administer the COVID vaccine to 10,000 people in a day.
As per reports, the Western Region of the city alone has immunised 18870 people so far, including healthcare and essential workers along with people over the age of 60 years and those over 45 with morbidities. Most of these have been administered the Covishield vaccine, read reports.
