In view of the alarming infection spike in several parts of Madhya Pradesh, the state has imposed a night curfew in Indore and Bhopal, to be implemented from Wednesday night. Earlier, the Chief Minister had hinted at the likeliness of such a restrictive protocol to contain the COVID-19. The government has also stated that those people who commute by buses must wear face masks to protect themselves against the pandemic.
Tough measures to restrict the COVID spurt in Indore
Indore is witnessing a continual case rise since March 9 and has recorded over 180 cases, each day in the last week. Emerging as the worst-hit district of MP, Indore is nursing the highest tally of active cases across the state, followed closely by Bhopal, the state capital. Consequently, a night curfew has been imposed in the two districts, effective tonight onward, to snub the resurgence of infections here
A total of 264 cases were reported in Indore on Tuesday, which has pushed the active caseload to 1,752 in the district. As per recorded data, the aggregate case count stands at 62,675, where recovery has marked 59,980 cured patients. Bhopal on the other hand has 1,066 active cases with 45,731 aggregate tallies.
At the same time, there are eight more districts where coronavirus cases are increasing and where special precautions would be taken. The markets in Jabalpur, Gwalior, Ujjain, Ratlam, Chhindwara, Burhanpur, Betul and Khargone districts would close at 10 PM. Surveillance of public movement will also extend to thermally monitoring people entering the state by air, trains or roadways from Maharashtra.
Face masks mandatory for bus travel
In a review meeting of the Transport Department, the state Transport and Revenue Minister stated that a face mask is mandatory for travelling in buses to break the chain of infection here. If any passenger is found without a mask in the buses, then legal action would be taken against the bus owner, driver and bus conductor.
