In a bid to encourage women for taking the vaccine jabs, the Uttar Pradesh government has issued orders to start inoculation at 150 women special booths. The state administration has worked out this intervention as a part of Mission June, in view of the higher reluctance against vaccination amongst the female population. Official across all 75 districts of the state have been directed to initiate at least two women special booths for focused immunity-booster drives.
A step towards increased vax coverage amongst women folk
Depending upon the need and the feasibility, the authorities can start more such booths at the Tehsil level later. While the territorial administration had deployed a wide range of measures to boost the vaccination program, this latest step is expected to fuel the count of beneficiaries significantly. As per the official overlooking the process of vaccination in the state, 92,44,765 men and 69,30,245 women have received their immunity booster jabs till now.
It has been observed that there are a number of families where men have been vaccinated but the female members were hesitant to take the jab. Prachita Khare, a young homemaker said, “My husband, two brothers-in-law and father-in-law have received the shots but we will get the jab later.” While the male members of the family have taken the jab, Prachita and her sister-in-law had deferred their vaccination plans fearing the successive side effects.
1.6% of the state’s population fully vaccinated
As per sources, 7.2% of the state’s population has received the first dose of vaccination while 1.6% of the total citizens have taken both their jabs. Across the state, a cumulative count of 16,97,352 individuals have been affected by the virus and 21,151 lives have been lost till now.
