The Uttar Pradesh government is striving to transform the two leading cities of the state, Lucknow and Kanpur, into the key drivers of the state’s economic progress. As a part of its latest endeavour, the state administration has settled plans to initiate an expressway project for renovating the route linking the two cities. Reportedly, the project scheduled to start in October, will improve connectivity between the two regions in addition to accelerating all-around growth and development.
6-lane corridor to be built over a stretch of 63 km
Given the lucrative nature of the project, both the union and state authorities have targeted their focus on this project assuring that it is implemented as soon as possible. As per reports, the expressway joining Lucknow Airport and the Azad Chauraha near Ganga Barrage will stretch over 63 km.
Being built at an approximate cost of ₹4700 crores, this route would reduce the travel time between these two locations to 45 minutes, as mentioned by reports. It is proposed that the highway shall be a 6-lane corridor initially while there are prospects of amplifying it to an 8-lane facility in the future.
Expected to be completed in a period of 30 months
According to reports, the Lucknow and Unnao administrations have executed plans to procure land for the project, which are expected to be materialised within 2 months. All set for a start in October, this initiative will take over 30 months to complete. The authorities are also deliberating upon the need for a flyover, given the hampered connectivity at the NH 27 intersection.
The financial budget for Uttar Pradesh has brought a string of innovative schemes for Kanpur and Lucknow. While Lucknow’s medical infrastructure expects a comprehensive upgrade, other plans attempt to transform Kanpur into an industrial hub. Excelling in different fields, the two cities can magnify their interdependencies through better road connectivity. If the proposals turn into a reality, both cities will be assured of an expedited path of development.
