In honour of International Women’s Day, UP’s health department has launched a COVID immunity drive that priorities the vaccination of women in the second phase of its coronavirus inoculation drive. For this, certain health care facilities have been reserved for administering the vaccine jab to women.

As per reports, women over 60 years of age and those above 45 with comorbidities would be given the first preference of the coronavirus vaccination. Additionally, those without prior registration would also be allowed to get the shot at any government centre in the state. In Lucknow, Mayor, Sanyukta Bhatia got the first dose of COVID-19 vaccination at Dr, Shyama Prasad Mukherjee (Civil) Hospital, encouraging other women to come forward and get vaccinated as well.
Besides the state capital, Agra in UP has also launched an immunity drive designed for women, by women. The Chief Medical Officer, Agra notified that “On Women’s Day, we have made arrangements to give priority to women for vaccination. At three centres, only women staffers will be administering the vaccine and that too only to women. Men will not be allowed at those facilities.”
COVID vaccination drive at Agra’s District Hospital, Lady Lyall hospital and Etmadpur Community Health Centre will be a women-only affair and the men will be vaccinated at other centres. However, medical officials have directed the concerned officials to give priority to women for Covid vaccination at other centres in various districts.
