The 63km long Lucknow-Kanpur Expressway will begin pivotal construction work in July this year and will be known as NE-6, read reports. Starting from Shaheed Path in Lucknow, the expressway will map through the Unnao district and will be linked to the proposed ring road in Kanpur. Reportedly budgeted at ₹4,700 crore, this expressway will be able to cut down transit time between Lucknow and Kanpur from 2 hours to just 50 minutes.
Lucknow-Kanpur NE-6 to boost the defence corridor coming up in UP
The Lucknow-Kanpur e-way will include the construction of 3 major and 28 minor bridges. Besides, 38 underpasses and 6 flyovers also need to be built to manage the traffic from the two cities. A 13-km stretch along this route between Amausi and Bani in Lucknow will be an elevated corridor to decongest the city roads. NE-6 has been designed as an eight-lane road but will start off with only 6 lanes, initially.
The blueprints have been sketched to link the expressway to the Unnao-Lalganj-Raebareli highway. By estimates, a budget of ₹900 crore has been allotted for the land acquisition for the project.
As per reports, the NE-6 will boost the defence corridor coming up in Uttar Pradesh. Lucknow and Kanpur both are primary aspects of the defence manufacturing ecosystem and supply chain in the country already and form 2 out of 6 nodes of the defence corridor in UP. The other four checkpoints are Chitrakoot, Jhansi, Agra and Aligarh.
There are 2 operational expressways in UP and 3 are currently under construction. Additionally, land acquisition for the Ganga e-way has also started.
