In a bid to safeguard Lucknow’s monumental beauty, the Lucknow Development Authority has decided to erect a fence around the iconic Ghanta Ghar. At present, the monumental tower is open on all sides and pulls in anti-social elements, strays and encroachment on the premises. This development has been appealed by a letter to the Development Authority on behalf of the Allied Hussainabad Trust.
Safeguarding Lucknow’s heritage
The Allied Hussaninabad Trust-in charge Kinsuk Srivastava, said that a team of Archaeological Survey of India (ASI) met LDA officials to initiate the discussion and development of a security fence at Lucknow’s Ghanta Ghar. Apart from this, a temporary toilet will also be made, informed officials.
This protective boundary will provide relief from stray animals, anti-social elements and intrusion here. The Lucknow Development Authority has further tasked the institution working to save the city’s heritage, to prepare an expenditure layout of the same.
A detailed report of this will be then forwarded to the LDA to sanction a budget for the same. Kinshuk Srivastava said that officials will inspect the clock tower campus soon, after which the boundary wall will be built here.

The safety boundary at Lucknow’s clock tower is a step towards ‘fencing’ the roots of the city’s legacy and traditional identity. A means to preserve the token of Nawabi inheritance, this is a small yet significant move, that relays concern regarding the city’s archaic profile.
